Typical overnight failure cost

Most operators find out when they open up in the morning.

A freezer fails at 2am. The stock starts warming. By 6am the food is gone and the repair call goes in. Your insurer will ask for temperature logs you don’t have.

Manual paper checks get missed. Standalone alarms need someone nearby to hear them. Neither gives you the audit trail an EHO inspection requires.

How it works

Up and running in under an hour.

01

Plug in the hub

A Raspberry Pi running our software, tucked in a cupboard. Flash the SD card, run our setup script, and it’s online. Off-the-shelf hardware — no proprietary lock-in, no installer fee.

02

Pair the sensors

Battery-powered Zigbee sensors go inside each cabinet. Pair them through the local UI in seconds, assign them to fridges in the dashboard. No wiring, no drilling.

03

Get alerted, anywhere

Threshold breached? We email and SMS immediately, then call your on-call number if no one responds. Press 1 to acknowledge from any phone. The alert stays open until someone does.

What you get

Built for kitchens, not labs.

Live monitoring across every site

Open the dashboard from your phone and see exactly what every fridge and freezer is doing right now. Problems surface first — stable cabinets get out of the way.

  • One-glance status: Stable, Drifting, Critical, Offline
  • Trend against the previous hour, not just the target temp
  • Mobile-first — works on the line, in the back office, anywhere

Alerts that escalate until answered

Email and SMS immediately, a voice call at 30 minutes if no one responds — and every delay is configurable. Per-cabinet thresholds, per-contact preferences, out-of-hours rules built in.

  • Warning and critical bands — not symmetric offsets from a target
  • Mute during planned defrost, with a 90-day audit trail cap
  • Acknowledge by pressing 1 on any phone, day or night

Compliance logs ready for any inspection

Every reading, every alert, every acknowledgment saved automatically with categorised reason codes. Export any date range to CSV in one click.

  • 3 years immutable, tamper-evident retention on all plans
  • Reason codes: door left open, defrost, false alarm, fault
  • Full audit log — sensor swaps, mutes, user actions

Keeps recording when the internet goes down

The hub buffers up to a week of readings locally. On reconnect it syncs in order and fires retrospective alerts, stamped at the moment breaches actually occurred.

  • Local SQLite buffer — up to ~7 days per hub
  • Retrospective alerts with offline duration context
  • Optional 4G dongle failover for belt-and-braces setups
Hardware

You own the kit.

No rental contracts. No proprietary boxes. Everything comes from standard retailers — Amazon, Pi Hut, Argos — and you own it outright from day one.

How much does the hardware cost up front?

For a typical small restaurant with three fridges and a freezer, you’re looking at around £125 for the hub, dongle and four sensors. Add £60 if you want a UPS and 4G dongle for full belt-and-braces resilience. Everything comes from standard retailers — Amazon, Pi Hut, Argos — and you own it outright.

Do I need an installer?

No. We deliberately built this to be DIY. Flash a stock Raspberry Pi OS image to an SD card, run our setup script, pair the sensors through the local UI, you’re done. Most customers are monitoring inside an hour. The how it works guide walks through every step.

What happens if my internet goes down?

The hub keeps recording. Every reading goes into a local SQLite buffer — up to roughly a week’s worth of data per hub. When connectivity comes back, it drains the queue chronologically and replays any threshold breaches that happened during the outage, so you still get the alert — just stamped at the time it actually occurred. For environments where this matters most, we recommend a 4G USB dongle as backup.

Is this good enough for EHO inspections?

Yes. Every reading is timestamped and immutable; every alert acknowledgement captures who, when, and why (categorised root cause plus free-text note). Export any date range to CSV in one click. All accounts keep 3 years of tamper-evident data — matching the standard FSA expectation.

Can I bring my own Twilio or SMS provider?

No, and intentionally so. We own the notification infrastructure (Vonage for SMS/voice, Resend for email) so we can guarantee deliverability and a consistent experience. Every Standard site includes 100 SMS and 20 voice minutes per month — any overage is billed at £0.07/unit.

What if I have a chain of sites?

ChillCheck is built for multi-site from day one. Add as many sites as you need — each is £25/month and gets its own cabinet list, contact list, and alert rules. A single login covers all of them. For large chains with SSO or API requirements, talk to us about Enterprise.

Is there a contract?

No long-term contract. Month to month, cancel from inside the dashboard, no questions asked. Your first month is covered by a 30-day money-back guarantee — if it’s not right for you, just ask.
